Assessing Secular Trends in HIV Rapid Diagnostic Test Uptake and Positivity in Northeast Iran

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is home to some of the most diverse cultures and countries in the world. One such country is Iran, located in the northeast of the region. This article will focus on the secular trends in HIV rapid diagnostic test uptake and positivity in northeast Iran.

Background

HIV rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) are a key tool in the fight against HIV/AIDS. They are used to detect the presence of HIV antibodies in a person’s blood sample. In northeast Iran, RDTs have been used since the early 2000s to diagnose HIV infection. However, the uptake of these tests and the positivity rate of the tests have not been well studied.

Study Objectives

The objective of this study was to assess the secular trends in HIV RDT uptake and positivity in northeast Iran. The researchers also sought to identify factors associated with RDT uptake and positivity.

Methods

The researchers used data from the Iranian National HIV/AIDS Surveillance System (INHASS) from 2000 to 2016. The data included information on HIV RDT uptake and positivity. The researchers used descriptive and multivariate logistic regression analyses to assess the secular trends in HIV RDT uptake and positivity.

Results

The results of the study showed that the uptake of HIV RDTs in northeast Iran increased significantly over the study period. The positivity rate of the tests also increased significantly. The researchers also found that factors such as age, gender, and marital status were associated with RDT uptake and positivity.

Conclusion

The study concluded that there has been a significant increase in HIV RDT uptake and positivity in northeast Iran over the past 16 years. The researchers also identified several factors associated with RDT uptake and positivity.
